Welcome aboard the REEL BUSY and to our St. Lucie Inlet Fishing Report. The first couple weeks of January offered up some good days, some bad days and some days we’re just too ugly to fish.
The lack of cold fronts have kept the sardines and threadfins north of us and with little bait around to hold the fish they’re migrating through. On most days we caught a few dolphin and a sailfish or two, some days we’re a struggle to get a bite and some days the seas we’re just too ugly to fish.
The sailfish bite was red hot on the 11th and while we sat at the dock multiple boats had double digit releases. The sailfish we’re fired up and eating everything in sight as they migrated past Stuart. There’s always a few sailfish off the coast of Stuart but until the bait shows up the sailfish bite will continue to be hit and miss as they migrate south for the winter.
The Mahi bites been scattered about as well. Some days good, some days not so much. I guess that’s why they call it fishing. On most days we caught a few Mahi from 5 to 15 pounds and you can expect good to excellent Mahi fishing in the coming weeks.
