Hello Fish Fans, Welcome aboard the REEL BUSY and to our Stuart Florida Fishing Report. The dog days of summer are coming to a close and having air conditioned helm seating to beat the heat was appreciated by all. We got lucky this year and all the hurricanes passed us by. We had a close call the beginning of August and took the boat west passing through the locks and lake Okeechobee. The photo below was taken inside the St. Lucie Locks before they raise the water level 8 to 10 feet and let us out the other side. The fishing was excellent most of July but hit and miss for most of august after the hurricane passed just 50 miles off the coast. We had some reel good days but there was a few stinkers in the mix. Kingfish, bonita and sailfish provided most of the action with a scattering of dolphin, tuna and wahoo.
The temperatures are dropping and the fall fish are starting to show up. October is an excellent month for Stuart Florida Fishing and most of the action will be just 5 to 7 miles off the beach. The lack of fishing pressure from the shut down this spring should deliver an abundance of dolphin this fall as they migrate back south. Most of the dolphin we’ll be catching are 8 to 12 pounds with a few in the 20’s. Along with the dolphin starting to show up big blackfin tuna have also started to arrive. Most of the blackfin tuna we’ve been catching have been 15 to 25 pounds and there’ll be a few scattered about pushing 35 pounds.
The summer sailfish bite was excellent again this summer as the sailfish meandered back to the north to cooler water. The temperatures are dropping and the first migrating sailfish will start arriving in Stuart next month. Everyone will tell you Nov., Dec. and Jan. is prime time for a red hot sailfish bite but the last 3 years I think we’ve had a better sailfish bite in spring, summer and fall.
