Lots of Mahi action!

Postby cfoohs » Mon Nov 10, 2014 5:10 pm

I was able to get out this weekend(Saturday) after a few weeks off and started trolling in about 60' east of the St. Lucie inlet at around 6:30 am. Headed towards Push Button as usual to see if I could pick up a Wahoo or Blackfin on the way out but no bites so I trolled around the Hill for a while with just a bonehead to show for it. I decided to go into around 80-100' as I had seen some good Mahi action in there a few weeks ago and sure enough as we approached the 100' mark just North of the inlet we started seeing flyers all over the place as well as Frigate birds. I new we were in the right place. We proceeded to catch 7 Mahi around 7-12 lbs. and lost a few others. We also had a large king skyrocket one of my outrigger baits but we missed the hookup. It was quite a sight to see that king jump about 8' out of the water with my skirted bally in his mouth. Even though we did not hook up with that king, it was a sight to see. THAT IS WHY I KEEP GOING BACK OUT WEEK AFTER WEEK!!!!! I always see something interesting. Of course I had a sailfish bite like usual too, but was unable to hook him up. Oh well, even after fishing offshore for 10 years in Ft. Lauderdale and over 30 years here in Stuart, I still love it!!!!! I have many fishing stories going back to my days at FIT when I use to take my buddies out and catch tons of larger Mahi, white malin, 60lb wahoo, etc. Back in those days it was nothing to catch 20+ Mahi in the 20-30lb range along with large wahoo. THOSE WERE THE DAYS!!!
