Once last trip for Donny’s son Donny before he fly’s back to Buffalo. Plan is same as last weekend, run & gun for fins. Baits were thick at Bullshark and filled the wells in short order.

Instead of the Hill we ran to the ledge in 300ft off the Loran Tower to see if there was any BFT before running & gunning. Moments later Donny was on a nice Sailfish to break the ice first thing in the morning.

Donny works this sail to the boat in short order…

But he wasn’t ready to come in without a fight…

Donny gets him back to the boat for a quick revive and release…

We ran east looking for debris & weeds and found them in 1100 feet. Worked large mats with no luck and decided to hunt further north.

Eagle Eye Donny spots a large log covered up with Triple Tail and other baits. Chunked up some fins from down below but they had lock jaw. They wouldn’t eat anything we tossed at them. We worked this log for well over any hour with no takers. It is frustrating to see the fins and not have them bite. It is times like these I wish I had a spear gun onboard.

We finally gave up and headed back west. We stopped at the AJ Spot with no takers there either. Saw Stu there working the bottom. How did you make out there Stu?

Made one last stop at the Sandpile and only caught one shark.

Today’s Tally
1 Sailfish
1 Atlantic Sharpnose Shark

How did you all make out today?

Tip of the day

When making your rigs, always end each of your rigs with the three loop method. Take the non-business end (the loop that connects to the mainline swivel) and loop it through and around the wound up rig three times. Do this on all your rigs and when you’re in the heat of battle and need to replace rigs quickly, this makes the re-rigging much quicker. Knowing it takes 3 times to unwrap a rig (no matter what rig) makes it a lot simpler.

This can be done on any rig you have. Trust me, when the bite is on, this makes those tense moments, less tense. A good friend of mine (Kevin Shaffer) taught me this years ago and when you’re in the middle of a Chinese fire drill with fins around the boat, you will be happy you know this little tip.
