Offshore Fishing Report - 8 June 2014

Susan and I were underway at 8:00 from Manatee Pocket to find flat calm seas offshore. Opted not to fight the crowd for livies and headed right to a 95 foot spot. Anchored up and got the chum going. Wasn't there 10 minutes when a nice bull showed up, nailed the flat line, came unglued but would not be denied that sardine. Fantastic fight and show but even prettier in the box.

Had a nice cobia wander by on what seemed like autopilot. The chum started working and a school of yellowtail started to turn on

right about the time another group of "fisherman" decided to pull up and stop right in the middle of the chum slick nearly collecting my flat lines in their running gear. Arghhh. Took a while to coax the snapper back to biting but managed four keeper yellowtail and one nice fat mangrove snapper.

Added two stud bonita, another dozen or so bottom throwbacks, lost one ginormous bottom fish that freight trained a jumbo live pinfish, snubbed by two more cobia, and caught the biggest flying fish I have seen in 50 years. It was 18 inches long and had a wingspan of almost 23 inches. It was like reeling in a model airplane on steroids! Ha! After a fight like that we had to release it. It was a great day overall, one to remember. Great job by the crew as well!

On the way back in, we picked up a couple of hitchhikers. They must have known we had fish onboard!!ImageImage
