Taking Riley and Stephanie out today for some Dolphin Hunting… Picked up some baits from the bait guy and headed out looking for some more baits.

Topped off the wells at the NE spot in short order with Greenies & 2 blue runners and headed out in search of some fins. Read Captain Dave’s report about large mats of weeds out in 1500ft and opted to run east until we located them.

We spotted a sailfish tailing in 70ft and stopped an tossed out a couple of livey’s. While they fished I chunked up some baits for the fin hunting.

Stephanie immediately hooks up to a fish. I look down and thought I saw a cobia underneath her fish but it turned out to be a school of small jacks. Riley hooks up as well…

Congrats on your fishy Stephanie 

You too Riley 

We continued east. We found some weeds in 500ft but no baits under it. Continued on an found scattered weeds in 1000ft. Drifted here for a bit with no luck and continued east.

1500ft and a bit more weeds so we worked this area a bit with no luck. Was getting ready to turn around an head back west when I spotted a rip on the horizon due east of us.

We head over to check it out and found large mats of weeds as far as you could see north and south of us.

Were in 1600ft now and opted to drift some liveys and chunk some baits. Worked it for a half hour with no luck. Rigged up a couple of ballyhoos and started trolling around the weeds.

We had one bite but it cleaned hook. Stayed with these weeds for a few hours with nothing to show for it. Made the call around 11:30 to head back west in hopes of finding some debris.

We saved a lot of sea turtles today while we cleaned up the ocean full of Mylar balloons. We did find one buoy loaded up with baits and worked it for a half hour with no luck.

Got a shout out from Shoeless that he hooked into a nice fin in 600ft. We were already running in that direction so about a half our later we pull right up to Shoeless a crew. How did you make out on the bottom fishing Sean?

We worked this area for an hour with no luck and headed to the AJ spot in hopes to save the day. Made 3 drops with no bites and called it a day.

Today’s Tally
2 Jacks - Released
Many saved sea turtles with our bucket of found Mylar balloons.

I had a great time today even though the bite wasn't on... We ran 72.3 miles today so it wasn't due to lack of effort. We will get them next time.

How did you all make out today?

Tip of the day

After my last trip I took a tip from a fellow forum member RockNReeler and picked up one of these. Protect your hand while you fillet your fish unlike what I did last trip out and sliced my thumb open… Thanks again to the Undertaker for helping my crew clean the fish.
